OUR PERFORMANCE PORTFOLIO
VOX was founded to create fresh, mesmerising choral experiences to enrich the musical life of the Mother City. Over the past decade, we have presented scores of immersive performances in diverse venues around Cape Town, ranging from the intimate to the innovative.
Explore some of our major musical projects below:
NEW SOUNDSCAPES
VOX’s flagship series of immersive performances, spanning history and geographies and taking us from the icy reaches of the Baltic to the timelessness of the Karoo, was intended to expose Cape Town’s audiences to fresh choral sounds (and sights).
IN THE DARK
“Imagine the magical sensation of listening to exquisite choral music in complete darkness…” This conceptual concert series, co-hosted with Biblioteek Productions, took place in the cathedral-like space of the Youngblood Gallery in Bree Street.
UCT SUMMER SCHOOL
VOX is delighted to be a fixture at these January lecture-recitals in the Baxter Concert Hall, first with Barry Smith and more recently with Grant McLachlan, in which we have presented choral music in a novel and interactive manner.
VINICHORAL
Our unique, multisensory pairing of wine and choral song was held on three occasions at Groot Constantia, South Africa’s oldest wine-producing estate. Fancy a spirited madrigal with your glass of MCC, or sonorous polyphony to accompany a red blend…?
NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS
Every December, VOX presents a local adaptation of the famous Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols; short Bible readings are interspersed with the singing of new and familiar Christmas hymns and carols from around the world.
CAPE TOWN PHILHARMONIC
Collaboration is the key to our versatility, and we have enjoyed many performances with the country’s most active and versatile orchestra, from the Shakespeare-steeped oaks of Maynardville to the iconic grandeur St George’s Cathedral.
HARMONY ON TAP
Quaffers and connoisseurs alike were invited to an evening of brew-tiful harmonies, from sea shanties to spoken fugues, and accompanied by a chorus of craft beers in the cosy atmosphere of Jack Black’s Taproom!
FLOWER SONGS
In 2019, we presented a rich bouquet of botanically-inspired choral music by Sir John Rutter, Benjamin Britten and others to coincide with the winter botanical exhibition in the intimate, historic UCT Irma Stern Museum.
ROCKING OUT WITH ISO
Occasionally, we cast aside our classical niceties and let down our hair for something completely difference. Twice we have celebrated the musical journey and biggest hits of one of South Africa’s most legendary bands!
TREE OF LIFE
Our 2024 concert programme was unified by a selection of music inspired by the splendour of the natural world and the biodiversity of the Cape, highlighting the interconnectedness of living things and taking us from Hermanus to Kalk Bay.
COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES
In addition to our own busy performance schedule, we are passionate about performing at community-driven events and causes, such as schools, retirement villages, fundraising events, cultural exchanges and celebrations.
