VIRTUAL VOX 6
Doubt Thou
We have a beautiful musical gift to share with you, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Our sixth and final Virtual VOX project, entitled Doubt Thou, is a celebration of devotion and love and was especially commissioned for the ten-year anniversary and engagement of two special members of our musical family.
Jan-Hendrik Harley, the composer, plays the violin and viola in this virtual performance. Elegant visuals designed by Casey Driver accompany the voices of VOX.
The words are taken from Shakespeare’s play Hamlet and comprise the opening lines of the Prince of Denmark’s love letter to Ophelia:
“Doubt thou the stars are fire;
Doubt thou the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;
But never doubt I love.”
Hamlet, Act 2, Scene 2 (Shakespeare)
(In other words, although one may wonder about the true nature of these phenomena – which were not fully understood at the time – or even question the existence of truth itself, only love remains certain and steadfast.)
