A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Broadcast at 18h00 on Christmas Eve (Sunday 24 December 2017) on Fine Music Radio 101.3 FM

This year Fine Music Radio will again be broadcasting the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols as sung by VOX Cape Town at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. This is a locally-flavoured adaptation of the famous service from King’s College, Cambridge. Folk carols from Spain and Poland will be presented alongside well-known Christmas songs by Peter Warlock (England), Francis Poulenc (France) and Arvo Pärt (Estonia), as well as congregational favourites such as “Once in Royal David’s City” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”. This year’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will also feature the première of a new South African carol written by Maike Watson to a poem by Margaret Kollmer entitled “Christmas in Africa”. John Woodland conducts the group and Erik Dippenaar is the organist.
